Thai Binh Province – 04 February 2025 – Dr Van Ngoc Thinh - CEO of WWF-Viet Nam – attended the tree planting ceremony organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The event was held at the wetland nature reserve in Thai Thuy District, Thai Binh Province, located in the Red River Delta.

The event was also attended by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy, leaders of the Thai Binh Provincial People's Committee, representatives of organisations, unions, and local communities. By planting together, participants conveyed a strong message on the importance of protecting coastal wetland forests, which help to form a sustainable ecosystem and contribute to climate response and local livelihood development.

Speaking at the event, Minister Do Duc Duy emphasised the importance of mangrove forests in biodiversity conservation, disaster mitigation, saltwater intrusion prevention, effective response to climate change, and sustainable development. He highly appreciated the contribution of communities and international organisations, including WWF-Viet Nam, to mangrove protection and restoration projects in Viet Nam.

WWF-Viet Nam is proud to be one of the leading partners supporting the central and local governments in promoting tree planting at the beginning of the New Year and contributing to the One Billion Trees government project. One highlight is that 62 hectares of new mangrove forests planted in Ca Mau contribute to protecting955 hectares of mangrove forests in the province.

Aware of the importance of wetland forests and the threats they face, the Government has issued several key policies to protect and develop coastal forests, such as Decision 1662/QD-TTg and Decision 1975/QD-TTg on the National Action Plan for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Important Wetlands in 2021-2030.

The participation of WWF-Viet Nam and other international organisations demonstrates their commitment to environmental protection. It contributes to implementing Viet Nam's sustainable development goals towards a green and prosperous future for future generations.
